A Brief History
Burmese
Youth Association (BYA) initiated the first fundraiser for the Burmese
(Myanmar) Community and Cultural Center of Northern California together with
the San Francisco Bay Area Burmese Community at the Capuchino High School, San
Bruno on August 9, 2009. Then, BYA
formed the Burmese (Myanmar) Community and Cultural Center (BMCCC) Committee in
2011 so that all interested community members can join and participate in our
Community Center campaigns and activities.
The second fundraiser was held at the Serramonte Del Rey in Daly City on July 9, 2011. And the third, the fourth and the fifth fundraisers were held at the Kennedy Park of Union City as the Burmese Community Thingyan Festivals of SF Bay Area on May 27, 2012, May 26, 2013 and May 25, 2014 respectively.
So far, we have raised
about $45,000 for the Community Center establishment and the upcoming
plans are on the way to make our Community Center dreams happen together in the
very near future!
